Take a Field Trip

If you have 15 minutes: There's no substitute for experiencing Island Crest Way as a pedestrian. Park on 42nd St and walk along ICW. Consider the plight of a homeowner entering or exiting Island Crest with a vehicle. Use the crosswalk at 42nd St.. Consider that Mercer Island High School is just up the hill. Would you want your children using this crossing on a dark, rainy morning? The intersection at SE 47th St. is another good spot to stop and walk around.

If you have one hour: Tour West Seattle. There are several roads here that have undergone four lane to three lane conversions. Drive California Ave., Delridge Way, Fauntleroy or Admiral Way. Stop and walk along the street. Try crossing at a crosswalk. Try crossing mid-block. Envision each street in its previous four lane configuration. Delridge and Fauntleroy both carry higher traffic volume than Island Crest Way. The eastern part of Admiral Way is currently four lanes, but is scheduled to convert to three lanes. It too carries higher volume than Island Crest Way.

West Seattle TourMore than any words we can write, we believe this first hand experience will help you appreciate the positive impact of a four lane to three lane reconfiguration.
