Focus on Pedestrian Safety

Island Crest at 42nd St.--Crossing four lanes is very scary.  And remember that this is a crossing that kids use to get to the high school.

Island Crest at 47th St.--Two lanes to a tiny island, then two more.  Many people have seen near misses at this intersection.

Islander Jim Richards recounts a bad experience there.

A Better Approach

Here's a good example of a crossing on a road that's been reconfigured from four lanes to three.  (NE 70th St. in Kirkland)  Pedestrians cross one lane to an island, then cross one more lane to the curb.

Three Lane Crossing

This is easy!

A three lane configuration would give pedestrians the protection they need to use the corridor safely.
