A Rare Opportunity To Improve Our Community

The Island Crest Way corridor serves its primary purpose: moving cars up and down Mercer Island.  But it fails in several important ways.  By reconfiguring Island Crest Way to three lanes, we can address the shortcomings and create a true community asset.

Update:  Mercer Island City Council voted FOR the three lane reconfiguration of Island Crest Way at the Council meeting on December 7.   Councilmembers Bassett, Grady, Grausz and Pearman were in support.  City staff was directed to proceed to project planning.   We salute the vision of these community leaders!

The current configuration is:

  • Accident prone
  • Hair-raising for pedestrians: see how
  • Hazardous for nearby homeowners
  • Doesn’t accommodate side-street drivers
